Saturday 18th September 2021 marks National Hospitality Day, a nationwide celebration of brilliant and resilient UK restaurants, hotels, pubs and bars who have been brought to their knees by the Covid-19 pandemic.
As a leading supply chain transparency technology provider to the food and drink industry, we’ve seen the struggles faced by some of our fantastic food service customers, including Burger King, Bella Italia and Café Rouge first hand.
So, to show our support in helping the industry to get back on its feet and celebrating all that’s great about UK hospitality, as a Harrogate-based business, we thought we’d share some of our team’s must-visit hangouts in the picturesque town to encourage you to go out to help out this Saturday, or next time you visit North Yorkshire!
“As someone who doesn’t live in Harrogate, I always look forward to travelling in and staying over, in no small part due to the abundance of fantastic eating out options. These are trumped only by the craft style beer bars on offer, of which Cold Bath Brewing Co. on Kings Street is a particular favourite. With an open plan room and a terrace style area attached for summer evenings, and a bar serving a variety of craft beers, a few pints of Schneider Weisse always go down a treat. I’m reliably informed that the scotch egg is delightful too!”
Daniel Hall – Account Director, Authenticate
“With a great range of plant-based foods, amazing atmosphere and friendly staff, Papa’s Mediterranean Restaurant is the perfect choice for me to accommodate my vegan diet. My favourite dish is the grilled layered aubergine – every time!”
Victoria Todd – Data Assistant, Authenticate
“Whilst Harrogate is a relatively small town in comparison to neighbouring Leeds and York, I’m always pleasantly surprised by the range of options on offer. Whether you’re looking for a hunger-busting burger at the So-Bar, an Italian experience at Lucia or a sumptuous Thai experience at Sukhothai (highly recommended), there’s quality dining to suit everyone’s taste. But for a relaxing afternoon visit, my top tip’s Three’s A Crowd. Situated on West Park and billed as a modern gastro pub, it’s the perfect place to while away an afternoon. Take the dog for a walk in the valley gardens or visit the shops for some retail therapy. Then grab a seat, sit back, relax with a cold drink and enjoy a light nibble or a more comprehensive meal from the ever-changing menu and enjoy the stray views. Four-legged friends optional!”
Leon Baker – Product Owner
“Portofino is always the top choice for our family. It’s a lovely, independent restaurant, serving great Italian food at a very reasonable price. The menu is massive and the portions are huge! Can’t fault the service either – the staff are always friendly and more than happy to accommodate my fussy children…”
Vincent Ashby-Smith – Senior Developer
“It wouldn’t be right to have a must-visit list for Harrogate without including Bettys, the world-renowned tea rooms. Formed in 1919 by a Swiss-born and French trained confectioner and chocolatier, Bettys has stayed true to its roots, baking up the most delightful sweet treats and serving sensational brunch, afternoon tea and so much more with impeccable service and silverware for over 100 years. Although I’m not based in Harrogate, every time I visit the Authenticate office, I HAVE to pick up an infamous Fat Rascal or two (the best scone-like thing you’ll ever have the pleasure of tasting) a few Florentines and a Raspberry Macaroon for my family – otherwise they fall out with me! With other locations in addition to Harrogate dotted around Yorkshire including York and Ilkey, my advice if you haven’t already been is go, go go! Besides, if it’s good enough for Nadiya from the Great British Bake Off, it’s good enough for me!”
