In a significant move to enhance its operations and drive improvements in animal welfare performance leading Australian retailer, Coles, has been embedding Authenticate’s supply chain transparency platform within its agriculture operations since March 2022 to improve animal welfare performance, streamline processes and optimise data gathering and reporting.

This case study will be discussing Coles’ objective for implementing the supply chain management software, how it has improved transparency with supplier information and improved animal welfare when dealing with goods and services.

Objectives of Implementing Supplier Management Software

Leveraging the benefits of Authenticate’s modular solutions, including supply chain mapping, digital audits, KPI management and dashboards for reporting purposes, in just 4 months, the team has been working with Coles to:

  • Map more than 500 direct and indirect suppliers
  • Transfer historic supplier assessment responses from a previous system (totalling 1,500 when complete)
  • Centralise and collate over 100 completed farmer Assessment Questionnaires to understand current status and performance
  • Identify 50+ sites requiring monthly or bi-annual KPI Capture concerning animal welfare covering a range of metrics including transportation time
  • Create bespoke reporting functionality including an audit calendar and supplier assessment dashboard

What does Coles think of the supply chain management software?

Speaking of the onboarding process, supplier experience, training sessions and progress made so far, Lauren Mackenzie, Responsible Sourcing Manager for Agriculture at Coles said:

“Since implementing Authenticate to accelerate our animal welfare ambitions, the support from the team during the implementation phase has been fantastic and we’re already receiving positive feedback from farmers and suppliers relating to ease of use, as well as realising significant time savings through process efficiencies.”

In response, Alex Walters, Chief Commercial Officer at Authenticate shared:

“Although the Authenticate platform is used worldwide by over 40,000 companies spanning 150 countries, partnering with Coles marked the start of an exciting expansion journey for our UK-based business in the Australian market.
